MARKET INFORMATION:
Wheat for July delivery fell 4.75 cents to $6.805 a bushel; July corn fell 9.5 cents to $6.40 a bushel; July oats fell 8.25 cents to $3.55 a bushel; while July soybeans jumped 13.75 cents to $14.7825 a bushel. Beef and pork prices rose on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. June live cattle rose 0.98 cent to $1.2110 a pound; August feeder cattle rose 2 cents to $1.4647 a pound; June lean hogs added 0.33 cent to 92.40 cents a pound.
COMMUNITY EVENTS:
Farm Loan Manager announced that farm operators who have suffered major forage/crop production and/or physical losses caused by drought that occurred on April 2, 2013 and continuing may be eligible for an emergency load. Applications for assistance should be completed at the Pottawattamie county office located at 503 West 7th Street, Atlantic, IA 50022. Starting May 1st the Page County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will accept applications for cover crop. This is a great opportunity for Page County producers to introduce and experiment with cover crop in their farming operation. The cover crop provide great benefits through soil health, soil fertility, soil erosion reduction and extended pasture rest/grazing. Page County producers interested in using cover crops as a conservation practice on their land can sign up for cost share funds through the State of Iowa IFIP program. Iowa Farm Service Agency reminds Conservation Reserve Program participants to schedule maintenance and mangement activites on CRP acres outside of the primary nesting season. Iowa's primary nesting season begins on May 15, 2013, and continues through August 1. 2013. For more information , visit your local FSA office or visit fsa.usda.gov.
Farm Service Agency reminds producers that some farm programs deadlines are fast approaching. June 3rd is the deadline for enrolling in the 2013 average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program and June 7th is the final date to apply for the 2011 Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE).
FSA announced the restart of sign up for continuous CRP, including the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement Initiative (SAFE), Highly Erodible Land Initiative, Westland Restoration Initiative, Pollinator Habitat Initiative, Upland Bird Habitat Buffer Initiative and Duck Nesting Habitat Initiative, will continue through September 30, 2013.
SOFA 19 (Speak Out for Agriculture) is an excellent opportunity for 7th thru 12th graders from Montgomery and other area counties to learn more about agriculture careers in an exciting overnight trip on June 4th and 5th to central and eastern Iowa with stops in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. The 2013 Waubonsie 4-H Horse Camp registration is open. The camp is scheduled for June7th thru 9th and special events on Sunday to celebrate the anniversary. The ISU Extension & Outreach - Fremont County will sponsor a New Fitness Program "Life Classes" for older adults age 60 and older on Tuesday, May 21st and will be held Tuesday and Thursdays between 5 and 6 pm through July 11th at the Park Washington Plaza Community Room in Hamburg and will begin on Wednesday, May 29th on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 and 11 am through July 22nd in Sidney. A location is yet to be determined. Pre-registration is required by calling ISU Extension & Outreach - Fremont County at 712-374-2351. Classes are filed on a first come / first serve basis.

"Mission to Mars" grades K-3 Wed. June 5th or Fri. June 7th and Grades 4-6 Mon. June 3rd between 9 am and 3 pm at the Anderson Conservation Center ... "The Private Eye" Grades k-3 Tue. June 11th or Thur. June 13th and Grades 4-6 Friday, June 14th between 9 am and 3 pm at the Anderson Conservation Center ... "Growing in the Garden" for 5 consecutive Mondays beginning June 10th between 9 and 11 am at the Montgomery County History Center. ISU Extension & Outreach-Page County will sponsor a Tractor and Farm Machinery Safety Course on Wednesday, June 5th, Friday, June 7th and Sat. June 8th between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm at the Page County Fairgrounds in Clarinda. Registration is required by May 31st by calling 712-374-2351.
USDA's Iowa Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers that in order to receive payments from USDA, compliance with Highly Erodible Land Conservation (HELC) and Wetland Conservation (WC) provisions are required.

Dollars are available to assist with care of your well. The DNR provides these funds to assist with well testing, closure, & reconstruction.
